Shining. I love for my cheekbones to shine. I love highlighters. I had loaded up in the last year and I have realized I’m still slacking in my highlight game. I have the basics, to be honest. And, I have products that I went out of my way to get because of the hype and love people show them.
I love a good highlight and that’s the point of this post. I love how it brings a little shimmer to my life and people notice it. It’s not like I’m out here with translucent powder on that no one notices. People take the time to notice. My boyfriend hit me with a playful ‘Ooooh’ when he saw my highlight the other day. This is something I don’t care for him to notice but he picks up on it and it makes me happy that my cheeks are standing out. Also, he said I looked like a snack so I know I’m doing something right.
My favorite highlighters are limited because of the amount I have. If I could count the ones that I have tried on in Sephora, the list would take off. But, I have slacked on my collection because I’m late to the highlight hype train.
Let me tell you why a highlighter is a great investment.
You’re shining. You’re shimmering. It’s noticeable and people will make comments if you are really out here shining.
It’s an added asset to your contour. Make those cheekbones stand out and add some brightness to them. A highlighter is going to be your best friend when you have events or want to go out and break some hearts. It’s just bomb, simple as that.

Fenty Beauty – Trophy Wife
I know you’ve heard the reviews. You’ve seen the pictures. It lives up to the hype. Like OMG, so much. My boyfriend hit me with a ‘Is that your Fenty?’ cause he knew what was up. You can really switch it up with this highlighter because you can figure out how to tone it. You can apply it lightly or heavy, it’s your choice. I love it and people notice it. It’s versatile. You can use it for your highlight and eyeshadow. That is how great it is. It really is the best if you want to stand out and be noticed.
Fenty Beauty – Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal
Out of the Fenty Beauty highlighters, I feel like these are some of the subtle ones. I like to switch it up but this compact is in my weekly rotation. They’re a pink hue and I feel like they are neutral when it comes to blending with my skin tone. I like that. You need a neutral highlighter here and there. You can’t be glittering up a place 24/7 — well, you can but do you want to? There are days where I don’t want to rock Trophy Wife because I just want to be chill. This highlighter duo that for me. That help me tone down my look and still shine. You can’t hide the shimmer, no matter what. Always remember that. Plus, add a little oil or wet your brush and you will be shining pink.
Fenty Beauty – Confetti
Love love love these things. Rihanna really came to kill the game with these. Basically, you’re writing on your face with a match stix and these highlighters are very defiant. I have confetti and it’s gorgeous. Originally, I bought it for my younger sister but I gave her Starstruck instead. This color is a soft purple that pops. Yes, my boyfriend has commented on this highlight, too. He’s been paying attention, I’m proud. I’ve received compliments from my eyebrow girl and random people. I think a lot of people doubt them at first because it’s a creamy texture that you are drawing on your face. As soon as you blend it though, it looks fabulous.
ABH Glow Kit – Dripping in Gold
Anastasia Beverly Hills will always have a place in my heart. You can’t go wrong with ABH cosmetics. She has the dip brow, contour powder kit, and so much more. Obviously, I wasn’t going to pass on the glow kit because I like to kill a dozen birds with one stone so a palette with four highlights? You bet that it’s calling my name. This set is actually pretty neutral and perfect for day-to-day wear. Of course, if you mix in some wetness, you’ll get a bright shine across your cheek. I enjoy this palette because of the range and the fact that I can switch it up. Dripping in Gold is definitely my favorite, though. You can bet that this is my go-to.
Becca Cosmetics – Champagne Pop
What’s a highlighter list without Champagne Pop? I tried Champagne Pop on at the store and fell in love. I really do love the champagne colors — my junior prom dress was champagne. It’s just so elegant and pretty. Obviously, this highlighter is pretty and it goes on so smooth. I love the color of it. You get just the right amount of shimmer and the color is flawless. If there is a highlighter that is raved about and lives up to the hype, I would say Champagne Pop is that color. Becca Cosmetics has some great products and I’m yearning to try Chrissy Teigen’s line. Until then, Champagne Pop for that win.
Unfortunately, I am lacking on the Champagne Pop — I had a sample size and bronze it so yeah, I need to load back up on that.
My first real highlight exposure was more than likely MAC. I had this bronzer from them that is shimmery and I use it as a highlight from time to time and sometimes, I overlay it on my contour. That would be my first experience and I’ve had that for like 6+ years.
You can’t go wrong with highlight and you shouldn’t be afraid of having some shine in your life. There is no wrong way to really put it on. Dab it on your cheeks, tip of your nose, and in the arch of your lips. I promise you that you won’t regret it and you’re going to be a bombshell.
