When I went on maternity leave, I had so many aspirations to get things done around the house. I blame watching Marie Kondo and scanning Pinterest all the time.
Unfortunately, I never got anything done because a newborn is demanding.
Nonetheless, my linen closet and reorganizing it was on my list. There is no denying that I have a lot of stuff and the pictures of the “before” prove that. Honestly, I hated the clutter and I had no idea how to tackle it at first. I just knew that I needed to get it together because it was a bad look for me.
Now, I’m Pinterest-obsessed and utilize it as my search engine so I searched many linen closets to see how people were getting things together. My linen closet is pretty small to the point where I didn’t feel like there was a ton of room. If you look at the pictures below, you’ll see that there are no linens besides towels which are always thrown in by Chase. At the time, we couldn’t fit sheets or duvets with how things were going on in this closet.
Cleaning out the closet
You can see the hottest mess in the block in these pictures. I have no idea how I let it go on for so long like that!
It looks horrible and I’m embarrassed after looking at these images. Is it really that hard to get it together? I couldn’t find anything that I really needed which is an issue because I’m in this closet every day. It shouldn’t be that hard to find a hair tie or grab a face mask, you know?
The first step in all of this was cleaning out the closet. I threw away everything that I no longer used or had for years and never touched. Yes, I’m a lotion hoarder. Those buy 3 and get whatever free really got me because I have a collection of lotions that had never been used.
Organization Bins
I ordered some storage bins to store Chase, Cannon, and my essentials. Baskets weren’t working for us which is notable in the before pictures. I think it was the fact that we would just toss whatever into them and didn’t think about having to find them. It was a bad move on our part but the storage bins have been great.
Each storage bin has its own purpose.
For Chase, I stored all of his products and brushes as he takes his hair care very seriously. I wanted to make sure he had space as that’s something he was vocal about when it came to the closet.
Cannon’s box is hosting all of his soaps and baby toothbrushes. We have so much soap for him that I was just stacking it up which is not a good idea. This bin helps give me an idea of what all that he has and what he might need in the future.
On my end, I utilized most of the bins because I have so much stuff. From hair products to women products, I definitely rule the bathroom. There’s a bin for hair products, hair ties, and headbands, self-care/facial products, and feminine hygiene products.
The general bins have things like first aid and extra toiletries.
You’ll notice that I have Snuggle® Scent Shakes™ Blue Sparkle® and Snuggle® Scent Shakes™ SuperFresh® Spring Burst on the shelves. I like to make sure that a refreshing scent is happening throughout the room and what’s better than Snuggle Scent Shakes? My favorite is the Snuggle® Scent Shakes™ SuperFresh® Spring Burst. You can find Snuggle Scent Shakes at Kroger.
With the Snuggle Scent Shakes, I can rely on a fresh smell through the air. I enjoy that the in-wash scent boosters help shake up my daily routines and favorite activities with a boost of snuggly freshness. They’re able to extend “just-washed freshness” for up to 100 days* out of storage with new Snuggle® Scent Shakes™.
What do we think of the end result?
I’m in love. I can FINALLY find everything and it all has a place.
As a mom that is always on-the-go, I need things to be in a specific place so I’m not late or searching forever.
Shout-out to my adulting game. I really did that! And, I can rely on my linens like sheets, duvets, towels, and washcloths to keep their fresh smell.
My quick tips for a linen closet makeover:
Purge the closet
You need to get rid of the things that are causing clutter in your life. There is no reason to have lotion and perfume from years ago when you aren’t going to use it. It’ll make you feel better, trust me. There is nothing wrong with getting rid of things that don’t serve a purpose anymore.
Utilize storage bins for visible storage.
The one thing that I love about the clear storage bins is that I can see into them and what’s in them. I had a hard time keeping up with things when they were in the baskets. We were throwing things into whatever we could and it made no sense because we had no idea where anything was. This makes life easier as each bin is for designated items.
Clear jars are handy for q-tips, cotton balls, and cotton pads.
For the items that need to be used to clean my make-up off or to apply toner, I find that keeping them in a jar is nice and easy. These glass jars were only a dollar and that’s a steal! I think it’s easier to get into these things and not have to dig through baskets to find them.
Add some nice scents.
Who doesn’t love nice smelling things? You will always be winning when things smell great. I find that my Snuggle Scent Shakes help out a lot when I utilize them with my laundry. I can count on the great smell to waft through the air in my home.
Meet my less-cluttered, organized linen closet!
This was a fun project and easy because it took just the weekend to get it together. I find that projects that don’t take weeks are something I can get done without stressing and with an 8-month-old baby.
It feels so great to have this closet put-together. Part of me feels like I’m together because I accomplished this.
