With the current climate, I am sure that I’m not the only one that is on a work from home schedule. At first, it doesn’t seem so bad. But, it can get stuffy.
How can one complain when they can work from their couch? I can not. Actually, I refuse when there are so many people out there that have to work an essential job or are losing hours.
Nonetheless, many of us are going cabin fever and wondering how to keep busy and focused. I won’t deny that I have to put together a schedule so I get things done. When I have free-time and need a mental break, I like to do things that will be helpful within my home.
That’s why I had to think outside of the box when it comes to the things that I want to get done. I’m talking things that I know I will enjoy and things that will be productive in my life.
I love working from home and I’ve been blessed to be able to do it in different roles. Honestly, it’s a great opportunity for employees but don’t get lazy or stir-crazy. I feel like many of us are going to go stir-crazy from being inside for so long.
Don’t go crazy from home, switch up the routine and your activities — that’s my best advice. Here are a few things you can do to make each day work for you.
At-Home Workouts
With social media, there are so many things at our finger tips which includes home workouts. Honestly, if you still buy magazines then there are at-home workouts in there, as well. Let out some pent up anxiety with a quick pilates workout or yoga session. YouTube and Instagram are crawling with fitness influencers that are sharing their tips and workouts. Check out Blogilates or Tone It Up for some workouts that you can do during lunch breaks or empty schedules.
Face Mask Through a Meeting
It’s not a bad idea to get in a little self-care as you’re in meetings all day. I say this as someone who has had a schedule that is back to back and I wish I had gotten something simple accomplished. This is it — self-care. Your mask can be a mask that you made with ingredients around the house (hello, honey!) or a brand mask that you have stashed away. either way, give your face some loving.
Close all of those tabs
Your computer needs a break, too. If the tab isn’t necessary, close it. If that tab has been open for days with no activity, close it. All of those tabs are going to drive you insane — I say this as someone that just closed multiple ones. Clean up the clutter on your computer and you could feel instantly better!
Read a Book
Listen, I can’t tell you how excited I am to read a book. There’s something about free time when you work at home versus being in the office. You don’t have extra things to work on when you’re home because you more than likely completed all that you could. Insert the book that you’ve been meaning to read but have had no time. Now, is the time to read your book or many books!
Get a Breath of Fresh Air
We might be dealing with a stay-at-home order, but getting a breath of fresh air and taking a walk is okay. You can do yourself some justice by stepping outside for a moment. If it’s warm where you are, take the time to work outside for a bit. Honestly, I wish that was something I could do right now to change up the scenery but this weather doesn’t allow it right now.
Research a New Recipe
First of all, you’re welcome. I say this as someone that knows that a new recipe will make you happy. During these times, you need something new to liven up life while stuck inside. Thankfully, we live in a time where we can utilize Pinterest and order groceries over the phone/internet. Now, make that recipe. I can attest to Chrissy Teigen’s cookbooks having some amazing recipes — invest in one of the cookbooks if you need some ideas.
Declutter & Organize
We all know that right now is the perfect time to do this. If you’re working from home for an unknown amount of time, try working in different rooms each day so you can work on that room. There’s nothing better than getting rid of things — trust me. I’m always donating and trashing things that need to be trashed. It’s okay to let go of things and you might have an ample amount of time to do that right now.
Re-evaluate Your Budget
Working from home makes it easy to order out or meal-prep, it depends on you and how you’re feeling. I feel like I’ve cooked more since working from home. That has made me look at my budget app like why am I buying lunch when I’m in the office when I can be preparing it at home? These are the little things that I notice as I feel that I am saving money by working from home. It’s a great time to re-evaluate your budget and take a look at your spending during breaks. Get a handle on things while you still have some down time.
Let’s be real, there are many things you can add to this list to stay busy. It’s all about what you prioritize and what you think is important.
Take this time to reflect and do what is good for your soul. I’ve realized how much I used to rush around and how I never took the free moments to do something productive.
With my son home, I’m able to slide down to his level and work with him on things like colors and counting. He’s 16 months, so we still have time but I enjoy doing these things with him when I don’t have meetings or emails to send out.
Working from home is great, but set a routine and get things done. Don’t let the comfort of your home slip you up.
Here’s to hoping this will all end soon and we’ll see the light at the end of it all.
