Listen, I’m here to share how we can put the Black back in Black Friday. The gist of this entire post is to share Black Businesses in the Columbus, OH area. Luckily for those out of state, many of the businesses that I’m sharing offer shipping services so you can indulge, as well.
As the holiday season approaches, I want to highlight Black businesses. For me buying Black and supporting Black is not performative. I can’t promote something and then do nothing about it. Basically, I refuse to be all talk and no action. Honestly, I’m really excited to feature Black businesses on my blog because it’s something that I haven’t done before. Shame on me, but I’ve only shared big businesses like Amazon and Target.
Personally, I feel it’s so important to highlight black businesses at all times. And, I want to do it more. I want to share black-owned businesses and uplift these businesses. This is my start. I want to highlight a few brands you should work with this holiday season and beyond that. There are more Columbus Black-Owned businesses that I’ll continue to broadcast on my blog.
Heart of It All Fashion
Heart of it All Fashion has been a brand that I’ve followed since I was in college. What I love about them is that they’ve showcased different fashion brands in their fashion show, held modeling classes, and obviously, sell amazing and appealing apparel. Their slogan — “Lead. Connect. Transform. Create. FASHION.” stands out to me in a way that can tell that they care about what they’re doing. It’s not a gimmick or just something to do, HOA is a brand that stands behind their beliefs. If you’re looking for comfy and appealing apparel like crewnecks, look no further than HOA. Use SPREADLOVE30 to get 30% for Black Friday!
Olivia Kristin Photography
Do you see those gorgeous pictures of me on my blog?! Olivia took those. Olivia’s work is amazing and I love it. The one thing that I love about working with Olivia is her passion and how she makes you feel confident. Not going to lie, I’m awkward with pictures and she directed and got me all the way together. If you’re looking for a photographer, whether it’s a family session, portrait session, senior pictures, or wedding, this is your girl. You won’t regret it, I promise.
Work the Custom
If you like customized apparel like shoes and jean jackets, then Work the Custom is where you should be shopping. For Cannon, we’ve (more so Chase) has had Kato from Work the Custom customize shoes and a jean jacket. You can find the jean jacket in my Cannon’s 1st Jam blog post. Kato does amazing work — like amazing. I wish I actually went places so I could get some cute shoes done, but I’ll like through my son. His jean jackets are super cute and definitely on my list of things I need to reach out about.
Whimsical Black Girl
I found Whimsical Black Girl on Instagram and immediately fell in love with the pieces. Whimsical Black Girl has a variety of products from apparel to jewelry to paintings & prints — you’ll have so many choices to make. What caught my eye about this brand was the earrings. I am a jewelry fiend, especially when it comes to earrings. I love them and the earrings that she puts together are phenomenal.
Small Victories
If you clicked this link you might see a page asking for a password, if that’s the case — my bad. Mero’s Small Victories line really inspired me wanting to make this list. His apparel line is dope. Like, I’m truly amazed by the pieces that he drops because they’re always different. And, the name Small Victories really speaks to me. The designs really stand out to me and the home decor items really add a pop to it all. What’s not to like about a brand like that? His drop is on Black Friday so make sure you get something!
TL Yarn Crafts
As someone that wishes she was way more crafty, I love the TL Yarn Crafts brand. This is for all my people that want to crochet and make themselves a headband or scarf. TL Yarn Crafts has your back by creating patterns for you to follow to make pieces that are actually wearable. I think we can all agree that we won’t be leaving the house much, so why not invest in a pattern and learn a new hobby? It’s definitely on my list and hopefully I can share results that are amazing and not a struggle bus.
The Company Connect
This is for my people that need to fix their credit, understand their credit, and tips for starting a business. As someone that has taken a lot of time to understand credit and finances, I wish Company Connect was there when I was doing all my stuff. I would have definitely utilized their services especially for the things that I didn’t understand or know how to do. Obviously, there is still a lot that I can learn from their team. Like their tips for starting a business which is what I want to do in my future. I highly suggest for anyone that needs to fix their credit because they know what they’re talking about and they will get you right.
Lolly Lolly Ceramics
I’ll keep it real with you, Lolly Lolly Ceramics might be sold out when you access their website. I wouldn’t be surprised because the pieces are it. Like, I need a mug because the mugs just stand out and they’re handmade. I just feel like there’s a bit more love in handmade pieces. Especially pieces that match my vibe which is modern and chic. I’m on the watchlist for the next drop because I will be getting a mug.
Detailed Interiors
If you’re looking to get your car detailed, I would highly suggest Detailed Interiors. Not only are they affordable, but they really put the work in. From experience, they were able to remove my dog’s hair from my var and I know it wasn’t an easy feat. If you’re in the Columbus area, I highly suggest that you give them a call. There’s no doubt that you’ll be impressed by the work put into and outside of your car. Plus they come to you, so give them a call!
Hopefully, this is a good start for many of you in Columbus, OH. I know for me, I’ll be looking into many of these services (and services from other Black businesses) this holiday season to show my support. I truly believe in uplighting these businesses and making sure they thrive.
As time goes on, I want to continue to share Black businesses that I shop with and businesses that I continue to discover (thank you, Instagram!). The goal of this post is to broadcast as many businesses that I can for everyone to enjoy and I hope that you get great service out of one of the businesses above.
