You know what’s better than a boyfriend? A group of girlfriends that hold you down.
I love my girls. They are the epitome of a ride or die. Literally, they have my back through thick and thin.
That’s why Galentine’s Day is a thing – a day before Valentine’s Day to celebrate your galentines and to have some fun. I feel like February 13th is a day to celebrate women and celebrate your friends. Yeah, we have Friendiversaries but I don’t think that really tops Galentine’s Day – unless you go all out and if you go all out, want to be friends?
I think there’s a misconception about Galentine’s Day where people think it’s for the single ladies. Uh, no way – you’re not excluding me from this holiday. I’m a lady and like Beyonce said something of the sort that ‘every once in awhile, you need to get the freakum dress out the closet’ which means go out with your girls and have fun. Don’t believe me? Go listen to this song and you’ll get it.
In my instance, I’m taking that as a plan a Galentine’s Day event and have a great time with my girls. A time to laugh and gossip – we’ll probably talk about Kylie Jenner’s pregnancy video and how it made us tear up and happy for her even though we don’t know her. Typical things we talk about when getting together.
But what is there to do?
Don’t worry, I got you – these are all things that I have done with friends or will do with friends. I’m more of a mellow person so catching flights has to be planned out (next year, let’s take a trip, friends!). I’m not going to break your bank account either – we aren’t all rolling in money or credit cards.
Time to have fun with the girls!
Have a Mani & Pedi Day
This is a go-to. My friends and I tend to do a mani & pedi day followed by lunch. I say, take a day out of the week and go with your friends to pamper yourself. There is nothing wrong with taking a day for yourself and making it an event with your friends. You’ll sip water unless your salon serves yummy mimosas and laugh about silly memes and talk about the Kardashians because of gossip. This is a great Galentine’s Day rendezvous. Your nails are no longer chipped and you can wear those open-toe shoes, what’s not to love about this idea?
Go out for a nice dinner
This is something my friends and I slack on – we go to brunch but dinner would be nice. Not Chipotle or Panera but somewhere cute and affordable. Get a group of your girls and dress up fancy for a dinner together. Think Sex in the City, channel your inner Carrie or Samantha or Miranda or Charlotte. Go to dinner (or lunch or brunch if that’s more your thing) and have a good laugh and reminisce about the good times. Dress your best and feel your best with your girls.
Take a night out on the town
See, this is different than going out for dinner because when I think to take on the city, I’m thinking that we’re getting cute and going out. I’m talking bars and clubs to sing to each other and taking snaps of each other. This might be a young adult phase that I haven’t grown out of but I love going out with my friends when I get the chance. I love dressing up and channeling my inner Beyonce. Like I said above, pull out the freakum dress, girls! This is your night to look good and sing along to all your favorite songs.
Host a Wine Night
Not going to lie, this idea is inspired by Kylie Jenner’s baby shower minus the baby. Host a night where you can all chill in cute pajamas, sip wine, and just relax. Pull out your cheese platter and the Rose, ladies. This is the night that I think you should host. It would be classy and comfy. You can go over the top and really plan the heck out of this night – it doesn’t have to necessarily be a wine night, it be can a donut night if you want but do your thing and invite the girls over. Kick your man out for a few hours and enjoy the time with your best gals!
Take a Class
I’m not talking about a class like Economics or anything like that but something fun. You can go to a Sip & Paint class. You really can’t go wrong with a class that is going to let you sip some wine or alcohol while you paint. Or you can look up fun fitness classes that you all could try out. Something that is low intensity though because I’m not trying to die during a class that should be fun for us all. You could even take a pole dancing class because that’s a thing. One of my friends had that is one of her activities for us to do on her birthday and it was not terrible. It was hilarious and fun — we went to a studio where a woman taught these classes and just did our thing. Find something in your city that stands out to your group and do it. Make an evening of it and cap off the night with some ice cream or froyo. Make your Galentine’s Day an educational one in some sense.
Let’s get real really quick – don’t get down on yourself because you aren’t in a relationship or have a significant other to celebrate with. Do not get down on yourself because you have your girls. We focus on this holiday as something to celebrate with a significant other but it’s not that. It’s a day about love and you better recognize all the people that love you.
Remember that and plan something epic. Take amazing photos on your iPhone and the Polaroid camera to document your amazing relationship with your best ladies.
You don’t need a Valentine when you have your Galentines.
How are you going to celebrate Galentine’s Day?
Love the ideas! Galentine’s Day is my favorite 🙂
We loved your list. Those sound awesome.
If we can add to your list in the past we’ve:
-Gone karaoke with a private room
-Seen DeadPool the movie (it came out at the right time). But a good movie will do
-Watched movies together at home
-Eaten brunch
The suggestion to take a class we have to give a try.
Super cute ideas! Love the taking a class section!!!
I love this list! Those classes are so much fun. I need to sign up for one again soon!
I love the idea of taking a crafting class with my gal pals! I’m celebrating Galentine’s Day with a really awesome friend of mine. She’s a military wife who moved away for awhile, and she’ll be back to my area tomorrow! I’m so excited. We are going to probably just relax and watch Netflix since she’ll be traveling during the day. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

That’s so exciting! And, Netflix is my go-to. I hope your Galentine’s Day was great.
Galentine’s Day! That’s a new one on me, and I like it. Great ideas.
Watch Parks & Rec! It’s a Leslie Knope thing but a great idea to do things.
I love mani pedi days with the girls! Its hard with everyone wanting their exquisite gel manicures though haha
Those are some of my favorite days! And, gel manicures are so hard to do in a group setting lol
