October is such a fun month. It’s literally a month where you can decorate to scare and be spooky. As I think about it more and more, October might be my favorite month. I enjoy Halloween and I’m having tons of fun decorating for the holiday. I have bought hella pumpkins to decorate random areas of my house — I have dedicated myself to being a part-time homemaker at my condo.
What’s more fun than finding things that fall within a theme for the month? Like, it’s October and everything should be spooky, scary, and mysterious. That’s what I think when I think Halloween so I have spent the entire month listening to podcasts that center on mysteries.
Do you like podcasts? For me, it’s one of those things where I have to be working to tune in and keep up with what they are saying. I have yet to give a podcast the time of day on my ride home from work but I think it would be perfect for a road trip in the near future.
Please tell me that you like mysteries.
I loved television shows like Cold Case and Without A Trace when they were on air. A good mystery really gets me hooked because I believe in closure and I’m always curious to see the different dynamics of cases.
The thing about podcasts is that someone is telling me the story so I don’t have to read it myself. I like that. I enjoy a good book but when it comes to like a big news story, I want everything in one place and it usually isn’t. That is why I like podcasts. That is why I’m going to share mystery/true crime recommendations because these are some of my favorite and they are the most listen to podcasts.
Podcasts that you should look into and enjoy with a cup of tea and popcorn.
Time to sit back, relax and listen.
The Vanished
On this list, The Vanished podcast has to be my favorite. This is the one podcast that I listen to every single day when I am at work. They focus on stories of missing people’s cases. They reach out and get the details and try to find as many clues as they can. Not only that but it’s informative and they touch on cold cases from the past and recent cases. They don’t pass on any cases and they take request from people that reach out to them about these cases. The host reaches out to family members, friends, and individuals that knew the missing person and try to find context and clues that could help find the person. I recommend this for anyone that enjoys a mystery. It’ll definitely make you want to be a detective.
My Favorite Murder
Don’t let the title fool you, it’s not going to be as scary as you would think. This podcast is light and there’s some banter at the beginning before the hosts divulge into the cases. It’s called My Favorite Murder and on this podcast, you are going to listen to true crimes that happened. This is where I get jumpy because I get so into what I’m listening to and someone always walks up on me when I’m at work. You get a mixture of humor, comedy, and true crime when you listen to this show. It’s probably perfect for any month but these mysteries are perfect for the October month. This podcast tends to be high up on the list of recommendations because it’s modern and they don’t take themselves too seriously.
Up And Vanished
This podcast falls more into the scary and spooky genre. This podcast focuses on a retired pageant queen turned teacher who went missing. This definitely gave me the creeps because I’m just like ‘omg, this is crazy!!’. I have yet to finish it but I know one day that I will get through it. They focus on the investigation and evidence, in this case, it definitely makes you think and try to figure out what happened. The crazy thing is, is that this podcast is basically like real-time. The investigator is re-interviewing and finding new leads while presenting it on the podcast. You are going to be blown away as you listen because you will want to have the answers.
You have to give these podcasts a try if you listen to podcasts or watch shows like Criminal Minds, Law & Order, or etc. I promise you will not be disappointed.
You might be a little paranoid, I wouldn’t lie. I know my boyfriend gets annoyed when I send him a text like ‘come over, I’m scared’… he likes to tell me to put my big girl pants on.
These are definitely good recommendations that I would pass on to anyone that you know who likes mysteries. Obviously, real-life mysteries are different than what we see on television. Real people are affected in these stories but they bring to light a lot of cases and possible answers if someone recognizes a person.
If you’re in the market for a new podcast, try one of these. I had these recommended to me by a handful of lovely ladies and they would never lead me astray and I would never leave you astray — these are tested by my ears. You’ll be hooked if you’re all about true crime and figuring these things out.
What are some of your favorite true crime podcasts?
I love True Crime podcasts! I have listened to My Favorite Murder and Up and Vanished, but they bothered me a lot. My Favorite Murder was the voices of the hosts, and Up and Vanished was that the host couldn’t stop talking about how pivotal his podcast was to the cases moving forward! Serial is definitely my favorite one, and I thought Stranglers was good too.
True crime podcasts have been my thing since Serial. I’ve heard great things about My Favorite Murder, so I’m just gonna have to listen!
